This Ai-temari （indigo hand ball ) is made of indigo threads,and the pattern is created with the gradation technique in five shades of blue．
This Japanese indigo dye has long been a favored color in our country, and it used to be called "the Japan Blue"
Some patterns depict tortoise shell, woven basket, hemp leaf, chrysanthemum, cherry or plum flower, etc.
